Thanks for another great outdoor movie season

The audience starts arriving at the Sorauren Town Square for the outdoor movie, with their picnic blankets and soccer chairs. The inflated large screen is in the background.

The Sorauren Park 2023 Outdoor Movie Series ended on the beautiful first evening of fall, September 23, with about 600 people at the Town Square by the time the first movie, Turning Red, started rolling. (How about those SkyDome scenes!) Many hundred stayed for the second film, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. And the pre-show Teddy Bear Clinic with Dundas West Animal Hospital was a successful operation!

The Friends of Sorauren Park would like to thank everyone who attended and the many donors who help keep park programming free for the community.

Shout-out to our great volunteers who devote four summer Saturday nights to making outdoor movies at Sorauren Park a treasured community tradition. This summer’s season was dedicated to the memory of volunteer Finneas Forbes.

Special thanks to our amazing and many long-time sponsors whose support also helps cover the many licensing, permit, insurance and promotion costs. It couldn’t happen without you.

Family night at September 23 Outdoor Movies

The earlier sunset in September means it’s Family Night for the last Outdoor Movies of the season at Sorauren Park. And it’s a special double-header, featuring Turning Red starting at 7:15 pm, followed by the family comedy Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

But come early for the return of the Teddy Bear Clinic, staffed by the Dundas West Animal Hospital, one of our Outdoor Movie Sponsors. Come watch as a vet performs check-ups and “surgery” on stuffed animals! The Clinic starts at 6 pm.

Remember to bring your reusable container to save 50% off fresh popcorn from the Snack Shack!

Set in Toronto in 2002 and directed by Toronto’s own Domee Shi, Turning Red is the Oscar-nominated Pixar animated feature film that follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian student who transforms into a giant red panda when she experiences any strong emotion, due to a hereditary curse.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is the 1989 sci-fi family adventure classic starring Rick Moranis as a struggling inventor. His kids and the neighbors’ kids are accidentally shrunk down to the size of a quarter-inch (6 mm for the metric-minded), and must make their way through various dangers back to their house after being thrown out with the trash.

The Outdoor Movie Series is produced by the Friends of Sorauren Park and supported by our generous sponsors, and donors like you!

Outdoor movies are free thanks to our generous sponsors and donors like you. The pizza oven will be serving s’mores from the Friends of Sorauren Park, and the Snack Shack will have fresh-popped popcorn and drinks. Bring your reusable popcorn container and save 50% off the price!

The September movies will be a kid-friendly double-header with Turning Red and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, starting at 7:15 with the earlier sunset.
