Visit the Sorauren Park booth at the Roncy Polish Festival. We’ll be at Grenadier and Roncy.

Want to “sign our petition” for the new community centre at Sorauren Park? Want updates on the Outdoor Movie series? Want to get involved in community life?

Visit the Friends of Sorauren Park booth at the Roncesvalles Polish Festival this Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18. Our volunteers will be set up on Roncesvalles near Grenadier Avenue, between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. each day.

At the booth, you can get your keychain to add to our  special “Unlock the Community Centre” awareness campaign for the new Wabash Community Centre adjacent to the park. We’re creating a visual petition with thousands of keychains affixed to the fence outside the old linseed oil mill, the site for the new community centre. Add your family name this weekend!

At the booth, you can also:

  • get details on the Sept. 24 Outdoor Movie screening of E.T.
  • get details on this year’s Pumpkin Parade and Pumpkin Sale
  • sign up for Sorauren Park News
  • learn how to get involved in community life by joining the non-profit Friends of Sorauren Park

Plus, you’ll enjoy everything the Polish Festival has to offer! Roncesvalles Avenue will be closed throughout the weekend and taken over by the festival featuring food, music, merchants, displays and fun activities.

E.T. wins as Sept. 24 outdoor movie selection

Movie poster for E.T. The Extra-terrestrial

Steven Speilberg strikes again: his 1982 classic E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will be the third and final film of the Outdoor Movie summer series at Sorauren Park. The movie will be shown on the outdoor screen Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

E.T. was the clear winner in the community movie poll, taking 43% of the online votes. Wall-E came second at almost 15%.

The story of the lost alien found by children who help get him (it?) home follows the screening of Speilberg’s thriller JAWS on Aug. 27.

Outdoor Movies are free… bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn will be on sale and donations will be accepted to support the free programming produced by the non-profit Friends of Sorauren Park. Cash or online donations accepted on-site. It costs more than a thousand dollars to put on each movie, to cover the costs of insurance, park permits, and movie licensing fees.

The 2016 Outdoor Movie Series would not be possible without the help of community donations and the support of our generous sponsors. Thank you!

JAWS screening re-scheduled for Sat. Aug. 27

The second  Sorauren Outdoor Movie event, originally scheduled for a very rainy Saturday, Aug. 13, will take place this Saturday, Aug. 27, on the park’s Town Square. The evening’s festivities start at 8:30 p.m.

We’ll be showing the 1975 classic Jaws. Rated PG, the shark story is a little scary, especially for the little ones, but you probably knew that already. IMDB’s review page publishes a content advisory for parents.

The third movie in September will be a children’s favourite, at an earlier hour. You can vote for what movie will be shown on our online poll.

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Pass-the-hat donations will support the programs of the non-profit Friends of Sorauren Park.

Big thanks to our 2016 season sponsors!

Support free programming at Sorauren Park

The non-profit Friends of Sorauren Park is dedicated to bringing free programming to the park, including the Outdoor Movie series, the natural ice rink, last year’s 20th anniversary celebration,  and last summer’s Tragically Hip concert broadcast live. We also support the Pumpkin Parade and run an annual gardening event.

We’re also dedicated to advocating for the completion of the park, including the new community centre (add your keychain to the hundreds on the fence!) and the forthcoming bake oven.

But we can’t do it without your support. You can donate online to support our activities, or feel free to “feed the hat” when we pass the hat at some of our events.

Thanks for supporting Sorauren Park!
