We’re hiring for the summer

The non-profit Wabash Building Society, operating as Friends of Sorauren Park, is a volunteer-driven organization actively engaging dozens of volunteers in project coordination, public engagement, fundraising and corporate governance. Thanks to the support of the Canada Summer Jobs program, once again FOSP will be hiring one eight-week paid position for the organization.


FOSP is seeking a passionate, organized, flexible, outgoing, self-motivated individual to be the summer staff support to our volunteer team. As our Summer Park Program Coordinator you will be responsible for supporting the implementation and evaluation of all aspects of our Public Park Group.

Ideally, we aim to onboard the successful candidate late May 2024, operating from home and from Sorauren Park Fieldhouse at 50 Wabash Avenue in the Roncesvalles Village/North Parkdale neighbourhood of Toronto, as programming dictates.

  • FOSP Park Program Coordinator
  • Hours: 35 hours/week and up to 280 hours in total
  • Primarily daytime work with occasional evening & weekend shifts.

  • Pay: $20.50 /hr
  • Start: June 17, 2024
  • Finish: August 9, 2024
  • Duration: 8 week contract

  • Attire: Park Casual – FOSP t-shirt for public outreach, program and event delivery.

  • Other: Laptop computer is an asset.
  • Funding Eligibility Criteria:
  • · 18-30 years old
  • · legally entitled to work in Canada
  • · some post-secondary education

JOB DESCRIPTION
·Coordinate programming related to recreation and environmental initiatives in the park. FOSP annual summer programs include Saturday monthly movies, Wednesday Dance Nights, garden and park clean up days and Monday farmers market. .
· Coordinate FOSP summer fundraising programs including t-shirt sales and more.
· Work in accordance with applicable health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
· Performing such other duties that may be assigned by the FOSP Volunteer Board of Directors to support successful program planning and targeted outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED
As a strong candidate, you have a passion for helping to mobilize the community to create a healthier, more environmentally responsible community and:
· A diploma, degree or 2+ years of relevant experience in communications, marketing, event planning, public relations, or related field
· Excellent written communication skills across various media, including proofreading spelling and grammar, writing snappy social media posts, web articles, and newsletters
· Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work with internal teams and external contractors, manage complex workloads with competing priorities, tight deadlines, and budgets, and effectively problem-solve issues
· Highly computer literate with experience working with MS Office Suite and Internet including experience with a variety of social media platforms
· Strong networking, community building, engagement skills
· A proactive self-starter who easily spots opportunities for continuous improvement and knows how to act on them
· Reliable, responsible, sound judgment, tact and ability to maintain confidentiality
· Available evenings and weekends

QUALIFICATIONS – DESIRABLE
· Experience working in a non-profit environment a definite asset
· Relevant experience using WordPress (or similar) web operating system
· Experience with fundraising
· Experience in layout, design and graphics creation using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
· Experience with volunteer recruitment and coordination
