Sorauren Stories comes to a screen near you
For a summer like no other, the Friends of Sorauren Park have launched a fun new program to enjoy and learn about the park while keeping everyone safe. Sorauren Stories is a series of videos and video events about the park, its people and pets, its natural history, its human history, and its power to inspire.
The series is rolling out across Friends of Sorauren Park media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, our website and newsletter, with interactive elements in the park itself.
The first episodes of Sorauren Stories constitute a mini-series in themselves: The Dogs of Sorauren Park. Thanks to all the dog owners who have participated!
Upcoming Sorauren Stories will include Trees of Sorauren Park, Artists of Sorauren Park, and Sorauren Park 25th Anniversary.
We’ve also launched the Artists of Sorauren Park interactive social media event. Everyone is invited to send in artwork inspired by the park… and kids 12 and under have an extra incentive. Three youthful artworks will be chosen for a $20 gift certificate prize each, from Scooter Girl Toys. A selection of all artwork received will be published on our social media channels. The contest deadline is August 20 but send your masterpieces any time before that to intern@soraurenpark.com. Read the full contest details.
Sorauren Stories is possible thanks to our two summer student interns, Enrique Baniqued and Claire McPhee. Enrique is a film and television student at Centennial College, hired thanks to FOSP donors including FOSP director Chander Chaddah. Claire McPhee returns to the park after interning with us last year and finishing her environmental studies degree at McGill. Claire is hired thanks to a grant from the federal Canada Summer Jobs program.
Some Sorauren Stories episodes are also sponsored by a TD Park People grant through the TD Ready Commitment… stay tuned!
Due to COVID, we are not able to obtain permits to produce our usual Summer Outdoor Movie Series. 😦 We hope outdoor movies will return in 2021. Until then, watch for Sorauren Stories on your desktop, phone or tablet.
