Sorauren Rink now open

Just some of the Sorauren Hosers, ready to rock and roll

Thanks to the heroic efforts of the hardy Sorauren Hosers, the natural ice rink at the park is now open.

There are two interconnected pads, one for shinny (east pad) and one for pleasure skating. The boards introduced last year now extend around the entire perimeter, thanks to a generous donation from Downtown Lumber on Morrow Ave. Shop there!

Plus, boards now face into the shinny pad from the central island that separates the two pads.

Skating is open all day until 9 p.m., at which time the volunteer Hosers flood the rink every night, weather permitting. If you’d like to join our crew, contact us.

Thanks again also to Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation for supplying the water, hoses, scraper, storage and lighting. Thanks also to McCormick Arena for lending the hockey nets. Last year, one of the nets disappeared, only to mysteriously re-appear at the park a few weeks ago. Thanks to those who made its return possible.

Enjoy the rink!

Boards go up (mostly to keep in the water, but helps keep pucks from snow banks, too)
