10th Annual Sorauren Pumpkin Parade on Nov. 1

The 10th annual Sorauren Park Pumpkin Parade, Toronto’s original, is set for Saturday, Nov. 1 at Sorauren Park, the day after Halloween.

Bring your jack-o-lantern to the park and line it up along the path. Join the hundreds who’ll be out to admire amazing pumpkin art of all kinds on parade. The event kicks off at sundown and goes through the evening.

The parade started in 2004 when a few neighbours brought their jack-o-lanterns to the park and arranged for Parks staff to pick up the pumpkins the following day for composting. Now, upwards of 2,000 lit pumpkins line the path.

The Sorauren event has sparked similar events across Toronto, Montreal (Parade des Citrouilles) and this year in Upper Manhattan. It has been blogged in Copenhagen.

Huge thanks to City staff for support of the parade over the years.

And here’s a video with parade founder Colleen Kennedy, filmed in 2009, explaining the origin and values of the Pumpkin Parade, courtesy of the Roncesvalles Macdonell Residents’ Association (Quick-Time player required).

Please walk, bike or take transit to the park… it can get busy and the streets are narrow. See you at the park!

      Hi Tracey,
Thanks for your comment. It appears that the video is no longer available on the RMRA website (third party). I’ll see if I can find where it’s hosted and hope to get it re-linked.
