Upgraded rink preparations well under way

wooden rink boards at Sorauren Park

New rink boards to keep in the water for a better skating experience!

The Sorauren natural ice rink will get an upgrade this year with the addition of low boards around most  of the rink perimeter, primarily to keep the water in place on the baseball diamond for a better surface.

Rink flooding started this week (thanks Joe and Greg). All flooding is conducted by the volunteer corps of Sorauren Hosers, every night at 9 p.m. when the weather is cold enough. It will take about a week to get the rink in skating shape (thanks for staying off till then… dogs too!)

Interested in volunteering? Contact us, no experience necessary! We’ll team you up with experienced hosers. We ask volunteers to commit to one night per week during the rink season, which typically runs to the end of February… but any help is appreciated!

Big thanks to Doug S, Rob and Karen for the new boards! Thanks also to ongoing support, encouragement and a great plowing job after the storm from our friends at Parks, Forestry and Recreation.
