The popular playground across from Sorauren Park (it was named one of Toronto’s Best Playgrounds by blogto.com) has a new sign… which may help regain the playground’s identity.
The playground at the south-east corner of Sorauren and Wabash avenues was always called Charles G. Williams Park, but the old wooden sign from pre-amalgamation days was faded and hard to read. The space was often called “Sorauren Playground” or “That Playground near Sorauren Park.”
The new sign in contemporary Park, Forestry and Recreations colours and shape brings back the history (thanks PFR for the installation).
Sadly, we don’t know the story of Charles G. Williams…hey, maybe someone from the Roncesvalles Historical Society can add a comment?
