Pumpkin Sale raises $2,300, Pumpkin Parade Nov. 1

Volunteer and community spirit overcame ceaseless rain to make this year’s Pumpkin Sale another success.

More than $2,300 was raised for the Sorauren Town Square fund through pumpkin sales to hardy families and individuals who braved the wet weather last Saturday. Volunteers painted faces and distributed hot chocolate and Halloween cupcakes to the pumpkin patrons.

Another big thanks to Chander Chaddah, Sutton real estate broker, and Joanna Lang, Scotiabank mortgages, for donating the pumpkins again this year. Thanks also to the irrepressible Scotiabank team who helped set up and tear down in the rain.

This year’s proceeds will be doubled thanks to a matching grant from Live Green Toronto. The community fundraising goal is $75,000 before next May, and more than $53,000 has already been raised. Donations of $100 or more are recognized on the donor wall and donations of $10 or more can receive a charitable tax receipt. Donate here.

Town Square construction is planned to start in the second half of 2013. An impressive 26 landscape architect companies responded to the City’s call for bidders for the final design for the project!

And need we remind everyone: the Pumpkin Parade takes place the evening of Nov. 1. Forecast calls for possible light drizzle… not enough to dampen the march of the jack-o-lanterns.
